Knowles Building Centre is a local, family run business. It was established by George Knowles in 1950. For years, the business was run by George with the help of his two sons, Richard and Michael. In 2000, Richard, his wife Johanne, his son Scott and Scott’s wife Simone took over the business. We continue to manage and operate the store today.
Our store and warehouse are located at 1 Queen Street in Kapuskasing. We sell a full line of lumber, plywoods, builder’s supplies and builder’s hardware. We will serve you with an enthusiastic and bilingual staff of 15 full time employees.
At Knowles Building Centre we maintain our position as a competitive supplier of building products in the area through their association with Castle Building Centres. We have been a shareholder and member of the Castle Building Centres buying group since 1974. This association allows us to offer competitive prices on the products we carry.
We also belong to the Kapuskasing and District Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, the Lumber and Building Materials Association of Ontario, and the Canadian Retail Hardware Association to name a few.
Our business consists of a 10,000 square foot store with approximately 8400 items that make up our inventory. We maintain a good selection for do-it- yourselfer’s, contractors, as well as commercial operators. Some of the name brands we carry include: Sico paints, Jeld-Wen and Roberge windows, DeWalt tools, Weiser locks, IKO shingles, and Owens Corning insulation. We carry a wide assortment of lumber, gypsum, insulation, and roofing products. We carry millwork (windows, mouldings, and doors) and always have related hardware products that compliment basic building materials. Plumbing, flooring, electrical, and tools can also be found at our store. Our business includes a covered warehouse and a large parking area to compliment our store.
Our philosophy is creating partnerships with our customers. We strive to supply the right material in the right quantities at the right time. Our staff has first hand knowledge of building materials, construction techniques, and building codes.
